Signs of Addiction
Addiction is a disorder that causes a variety of negative symptoms and behaviours. Recognizing these signs can assist addicts in receiving the care they require.
The primary symptom of addiction is a problematic pattern of use that results in clinically substantial impairment or suffering.
According to the American Society of Addiction Medicine, addiction is classified as a “primary disease” when it is not caused by another condition, problem, or health issue. A broken marriage, financial difficulty, a difficult childhood, or other co-occurring mental health conditions, for example, do not cause addiction.
Heredity is the leading cause of substance use disorder (the medical term for addiction). Individuals with a family history of the condition are at a considerably higher risk of substance use problems than the general population.
